Francis Ngannou Becomes UFC’s 3rd African-Born Heavyweight Champion: Cameroon’s Francis Ngannou showcased his devastating punch power as he knocked out Stipe Miocic in the second round to capture the undisputed UFC #heavyweight title in #LasVegas at UFC 260 on Saturday.
The bout was a rematch of their 2018 meeting at #UFC220, where American Miocic dominated Ngannou over five rounds for a landslide unanimous decision victory in Boston. https://lnkd.in/ejWGabV
In an earlier interview, the rags-to-riches Ngannou talked on how badly he wanted to become the UFC’s 3rd African-born champion with a victory over Stipe Miocic at UFC 260… saying it would be his greatest accomplishment.
“That’s what I’m thinking about all the time basically leading up to this fight,” Ngannou says.
“I feel like losing this fight, I will disappoint a lot of people.”
“The whole #Africancontinent that are looking up to us — being like 3 African champions [along with] Kamaru Usman and Adesanya.”
Ngannou — who was born and raised in #Cameroon — adds, “We don’t realize how big it is but we are talking about a continent of billions of people. It’s huge.”
That’s a lot of pressure, no?? https://lnkd.in/e2ZmKcb
